On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, a significant milestone unfolded in Kaduna South Local Government Area with the launch of a free fertilizer distribution initiative, championed by Governor Senator Uba Sani as part of the SUSTAIN agenda. This effort aims to enhance crop yields, strengthen food security, and uplift the livelihoods of local farmers amid rising costs.

Project Overview

The free fertilizer distribution project reflects Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to bridging agricultural gaps across Kaduna State’s urban and rural zones. Designed to boost productivity, support food security, and empower farming communities, it targets residents in diverse wards, aligning with the SUSTAIN vision to foster rural resilience.

Key Highlights:

Scope of Work: The initiative involves ongoing distribution of tailored fertilizer bags, launched at Government College Kurmin Mashi and KASU Makera Campus, reaching over 500 small-scale farmers growing maize, sorghum, and vegetables. 

Impact: It will improve yields for thousands, supporting women-led groups and ensuring market abundance, like at Panteka, while easing economic strain. 

Community Reception: Farmers’ gratitude shone throughAlhaji Musa from Kurmin Mashi, a 30-year veteran, said, "This will double my harvest, insha Allah," while Makera cooperatives hailed it as a resilience boost.

Driven by Governor Uba Sani’s vision and supported by Kaduna South Local Government, this project leverages state agricultural programs for timely rollout. Chairman Hon. Rayyan Hussain oversees equitable distribution, ensuring farmers across wards benefit from this grassroots upliftment.
