Kaduna South Local Government Advances Cemetery Data Documentation to Strengthen Public Health Planning

Published on May 22, 2026

The Executive Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Rayyan Hussain MPSCM FICA, has held discussions with the leadership of cemeteries serving the two major faith communities in Kaduna South to assess the current state of cemetery management, identify operational challenges, and explore practical solutions for improved administration and documentation.

The engagement focused on the need to strengthen the proper documentation and collection of data relating to deceased persons, including gender, cause of death, location, and other relevant information. Improved documentation, the Chairman noted, will support more effective death registration and contribute to the development of stronger public health records across Kaduna South Local Government.

The initiative follows ongoing engagements with partners willing to support the Local Government’s healthcare service delivery efforts. A key focus of these engagements is the need to better understand the causes of both in-hospital and out-of-hospital deaths, thereby providing valuable evidence to support improved health planning, disease prevention, and emergency response mechanisms.

“A responsive healthcare system must be built on reliable data. Understanding how, where, and why people die is essential to improving how we plan, prevent, and respond to public health challenges. We are therefore working to strengthen our systems of documentation and data collection while respecting the important religious and community structures that manage our cemeteries.” — Hon. Rayyan Hussain MPSCM FICA

The initiative forms part of the Kaduna South Local Government administration’s broader commitment to building a more accountable, data-driven, and responsive healthcare system. In line with the people-centred SUSTAIN Agenda of His Excellency Governor Uba Sani CON, the Local Government will continue to pursue partnerships and reforms that strengthen public health planning and improve service delivery for every resident.
