Published on May 20, 2026

The sustained efforts of Kaduna South Local Government to improve nutrition and maternal health have received recognition from national and international stakeholders, following a visit by a delegation led by the Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission to appreciate the Local Government’s interventions in these critical areas.

The delegation included representatives of the Federal Ministry of Health, Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria, and other key stakeholders working to advance nutrition and maternal health outcomes. During the engagement, the delegation acknowledged the sustained interventions being implemented to support families and improve the wellbeing of women, mothers, and children across Kaduna South.

The initiatives have been passionately championed by Haj. Salma Abu-Rayyan, wife of the Executive Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, since the administration assumed office in 2024. Through her leadership and dedication to the cause, the interventions have continued to make a positive impact on families and communities across the Local Government. In recognition of her commitment, Haj. Salma Abu-Rayyan has also been recognized as a Nutrition Champion in Kaduna State.

The Executive Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Rayyan Hussain MPSCM FICA, expressed pride in the recognition and congratulated his wife on the milestone, while appreciating the stakeholders for acknowledging the work being done to improve the health and wellbeing of residents.

“I am proud of the dedication and passion with which Haj. Salma Abu-Rayyan has championed the cause of nutrition and maternal health since we assumed office. This recognition is a testament to the impact of sustained commitment and collaboration. We appreciate all our partners and stakeholders, and by the grace of God, we remain committed to doing even more this year to improve the health and wellbeing of our people.” — Hon. Rayyan Hussain MPSCM FICA

The Kaduna South Local Government administration will continue to strengthen its interventions in nutrition, maternal health, and other critical areas of healthcare delivery, in line with the broader people-centred development vision of His Excellency Governor Uba Sani CON and the SUSTAIN Agenda of the Kaduna State Government.
